Everyone who laid eyes on the bright blue orb known as Terrus had their own opinions on what lay beneath its surface. Many people claimed that another world was present in its cloudy depths, the Empire discredited such talk and detained any who disagreed with the explanation that the Empire Agency Scientists gave, claiming they were endangering the public wit the possible threat of treason and riots. Even though the evidence suggested intelligent life was present on Terrus, the Empire worked vigorously to deny and eliminate these claims. Until now. The Emperor suddenly announced over his global notification system, that a team of specialists will be deployed to Terrus. It came as a shock that the Empire suddenly opened up the issue after so long of denying mass public demand to explore the planet. It was what filled the dreams of young boys growing up in the Southern and Northern Regions alike. What really was on Terrus? Ro Calpar, a young man born into the harsh poverty of the lawless Southern Regions of Erothe, was about to find out. Ro had lived a hard life in the Southern Regions until being rescued by a old missionary named Tolby Tummons. Tolby raised Ro as his own son taking him back to the metropolis' in the more developed part of Erothe, where Ro was educated and enlisted into the Empires Armed Forces. Ro quickly accelerated and graduated from the Institute of Advanced Warfare with honors and was awarded the prestigious 'fearless' merit badge after he saved the lives of his fellow soldiers and commanding officers as they were ambushed in a simulated exercise in the Southern Regions. "We are approximately 1500 stems from 'Black Zone' Captain Sigland" said Reed the Navigator on board the AE Exploration. Ro stood silent, he was not used to seeing such high ranked military officials up close. Captain Beck Sigland, an old Airforce Captain, and also a recipient of the fearless badge, was highly regarded by anyone who knew anything about aerial warfare. He was a massive man about 7 stems tall with a long white ponytail tied neatly behind his muscular back, a shortly trimmed beard, and a wrinkled face with cold eyes that had no indication that they had ever had fear present. Captain Sigland had summoned Ro upon hearing the IoAW graduate was aboard. Although Captain Sigland was not part of the Entry Team that was to explore the planet dubbed Terrus, Ro was glad he would be the one taking him that far. "Mr. Calpar, I salute you on this day" said the Captain raising his clenched fist to his heart " Such bravery is present only in true heroes" The rest of the room also saluted. Five years before Ro's departure from Erothe, A team led by Erothe Empire scientists were on a highly publicized mission to the blue orb like planet in the sky, the planet dubbed 'Terrus' by the founding kings of the Erothe Empire, was a mystery to all. Attempts to gaze into its surface using telescopes brought only a bright gleam as if one were staring into a bright star, but when viewed under a heat sensitive scope the planet showed no traces of any heat or any significant amount of cold. As the team approached 'Terrus' and ejected the robot 'Gatherer-1', to obtain samples and closer pictures and video images, they were greatly disappointed when the robot suddenly lost all power and was sucked into the atmosphere of Terrus. All transmission ceased, the team was moping around sadly when Empire Headbase notified them of a solar flare in a distant part of space, they switched their shielding systems to suit the conditions. Suddenly a transmission came in from 'Harvester-1' , a fuzzy video ... It was a man, clearly and visibly a man holding a spear wearing furs and a mask. The man raised his hand and a bright light emanated from it finally ceasing the video transmission. "ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff' the screen went fuzzy. "Make sure Empire Agency knows about this, we can't let the citizens see this" said the commanding officer aboard the ship. A old scientist in the corner cleared his throat then nervously said " transmission fed live to broadcasting stations, sir" he paused then added " this was live" Public demand was so high on the exploration of Terrus that the Empire seen it as a saving grace in this time. Rumors were leaking out of the Southern Region about the Empires continued unwanted exploration of the hostile country. The Emperor's adviser's were the ones to bring the idea to light. Although the plans for Terrus' exploration were well underway before the public was aware, they were only in their developmental stages with the escape plan only theoretical. The Emperor was adviser told the Emperor to rush the exploration of Terrus, the attention would be drawn towards the journey and the inevitable death of the Erothe 'heroes'.These overshadowing events mixed with with propaganda would silence the news of the Southern Region. Information concerning the Southern Region was more valuable in the Emperors mind than the lives of a few men. Information of that nature. The underground facilities in Roa-Par were home to project 'chain', deep inside the concrete facility two scientists were overseeing the progress of the 'mini chain' test. The test was the intended escape route for the initial exploration mission, knowing once any spacecraft or robot enters the 'Black Out zone' its powers down, they constructed a chain like structure to pull the team out of Terrus' power disabling atmosphere. The chain constructed out of nanotechnology capable of stretching and folding to extreme degrees that is virtually unbreakable. Nanotechnology developed from artifacts discovered in Yuaan ruins in The Southern Regions.Artifacts that Dr. Tulu knew would send much of the world into a hysteria with the mere implications of its existence. Religions would be annihilated in minutes with chaos most likely ensuing. The only reason the Doctor had survived so long in the secret division of the Empire was his lack of family and friends, but he knew they had little use for him now he could see it in their eyes. The Doctor was developing technology known only to Empire Leadership and elite members of Erothe. "Dr. Tulu this can't be right, I was passing the security room when I overheard a broadcast saying the mission to Terrus will be underway soon." said a young scientist in his late 20's to the much older man sitting in a chair looking into chemistry tubes intently. "Yes, that is correct." said the old Doctor, momentarily steering his glance from the tubes to meet the stare of the younger man who had just entered the lab. " It seems that someone has finally slipped out of the grasp of Empire agencies in the Southern Regions, he's compromised the secrecy of Empire knowledge." said the old man, then added "Look around you " he nodded his head towards the heavily armed guards outside the window patrolling the facility. " You think they're here to protect us ?" "Of course they are ! Why else would they be here?" snapped the naive young scientist "they are here to ensure what we know never leaves this laboratory, Greyle and Harver didn't just coincidentally die after handing this project off to us" said the old scientist calmly , accepting his fate " your mad !... that .. that's ridiculous and you know it!" yelled the young man angrily, but the realization was starting to show in his face. 'knock knock knock' the glass of the door was being banged a plump little woman in the black Empire uniform. " The trip to Terrus is a diversion, the Emperor would have sent his adviser Winzlow along if it were not." aind Dr. Tulu, the younger man rushed to answer the door as if it were the old man he was fearful of. The door opened "Good evening gentlemen," said the woman" On behalf of the Emperor I regretfully deliver the Empires decision of your resignation of the project, you will be greatly compensated for your duties for the Empire. Your project will be passed along to another team. Thank You." she said and and nodded. The woman kept their stare and shut the door, walking off down the long concrete halls, heels echoing. Dr. Tulu was pronounced dead early in the morning, the apparent cause of death was heart attack. Although this came to a shock to all who knew the him because he was very active and healthy, especially for a man of his age. No further investigation was launched into the matter. The younger man named Yory Terg fell into a fate not much different than Dr. Tulu's, he on the other hand died in a horrific 'freak accident' while flying home. The body and vessel were burned beyond recognition, no further investigation was launched into the matter. Tein Dilmer was surprised that the Empire had chosen him for a project of this magnitude, the 'chain project' as he read in the report, was of vital importance to the Empire and they were paying quite handsomely. He laughed as he approached the lab marked 0045 in the dark hallways, his footsteps echoing. He knew that he was lucky, he wasn't exactly the top pick of his university. A plump lady standing outside the door smiled at him . " Welcome Dr. Dilmer, this is your laboratory " she said smiling big, something was fishy about that smile but Tien ignored it. This was after all his lucky day. "150 stems from launch point Captain" said Reed to Captain Sigland. "Well son, this is goodbye" said the Captain to Ro who was standing nearby "Goodbye sir" said Ro raising his fist to his heart in salute "May you return safe with glory" said the Captain. Ro marched towards the launch bay where his team was no doubt already geared up and waiting. He jogged through the mechanical halls of AE Searchlight finally arriving at the launch bay, his superior officer already geared up staring at the doorway as if he knew Ro was about to arrive. " I know this ain't no vacation soldier, but try to be on time when we deploy." said the man in a voice that sounded robotic from his mech mask. The Officer turned his back to Ro revealing a intricate looking backpack device, a rocket coming out the back. Ro had heard of these gadgets before, ACP (aerial combat packs). They were equipped with a parachute that produced Green Energy, slowing down the soldiers fall quicker so they could deploy chutes from lower altitudes. A fridge compartment was equipped in the pack with rations, and another compartment held ammo, explosives etc. , and even two barrels that shot variating types of rounds could extend out of the shoulders. Ro geared up in his suit fitting the pieces together like a puzzle, once he was encased in a mech suit he followed the officer into the open pod. The 6 other pods were already sealed shut, with a valve type seal. 'Launch commencing in 180 seconds' blurted a speaker from outside the pod, he stepped into the cramped pod, 2 other men in ACP's awaited there already strapped into anti-impact chairs. 'Thump' the door shut behind them, the unidentified officer sealed the valve. "Names Blaze" said the officer again in the robotic voice. Captain Sigland watched as the Pods shot out of the launch bay. He couldn't help but feel sorrow for sending such a fine soldier to what he knew to be certain death. The pods were visibly engulfed in what appeared to be an electrical field when they approached the 'Black Out Zone' , the current seemed to suck them into the blue atmosphere of Terrus, 'Poof' the cloud like surface parted and the pods disappeared, all hitting at different times. "It must be easy for the Emperor to throw away young lives from the safety of his fortress" said the Captain. He knew that AE Searchlight would not be able to retrieve the team until the Emperor revealed his promised technology, but even when this 'nano chain' the Emperor spoke of was complete the entry team was assumed to be long dead. The soldiers were not even completely briefed on the mission, they had no idea that they were already marked off from the moment of departure. Captain Sigland knew that to survive you must not question orders and you must not know too much of the Emperors business. The Emperor eliminated all who possessed damaging knowledge, all who even showed the smallest signs of disloyalty so he was crossing the line with those words. A masked figure stepped out of the dark corner. "The Emperor will be pleased Captain" he hissed through a shiny metallic mask. The dark hood of the figure covered the back of his long head, his large black shoulder pads with the Emperors symbol made him an imposing figure even though he was quite short. Winzlow, the feared adviser of the Emperor, few people had seen the famed man... and lived to tell about it. Even fewer people had seen The Emperor, secrecy was what kept the Emperor in power, what kept him safe from enemies, and he would kill anyone to ensure that. "Do what you must demon, do not try to fool me with your pleasantries. I will no longer be a puppet in your games." said the Captain turning to look at the figure in black robes. "Its a shame Captain, you were quite an icon to the masses." Winzlow said, a beam of green light materialized out of his wristpiece into a small energy blade which he lunged into the Captians chest, the Captain fell to his knees gurgling blood, 'arghhhhrargghh' he tried to grab the energy blade but his fingers were seared off, he fell face first onto the cold metal ground. Winzlow reached into a pouch on his belt and produced a small vial he doused it on the Captain, his massive body started to melt away as if it were being eaten by acid. Winzlow held his left arm close to his mouth and clicked a button "Mission successful the pods have entered Terrus. Prepare my escape vessel, and we need a replacement for Sigland he's been compromised." said the shadowy figure. Ro thought he heard voice's, they sounded distant and indistinct. Funny, one kind of sounded like a robot. Ro went to laugh but his voice sounded funny. He opened his eyes and was startled when lights flashed in front of his face, a temperature reading. Suddenly scans were done of 3 men sitting around the room. A screen indicated the good state of health of the Officer and the two other soldiers. Reality came back to Ro and he hit the button next to him. A mechanical case lifted off of his shoulders and legs. He got up and walked to the monitor, it was supposed to give a view of outside the pod. Only a green fuzzy static was on the screen. The Officer was soon standing behind Ro "Ye, I thought those pieces of shit would be as useless as Ferroh here." he cocked his head in the direction of the largest, and only soldier still in his anti impact seat. All of them laughed except the large man who replied in the distorted robotic voice " my button ain't working , Captain" he kept hitting the button franticly. 'BOOM' the entire pod shook and the four men were tossed into the ir violently colliding with one another. The crashing of their armor was loud, bu now as loud as the second 'BOOM' that his the pod again sending them into the air. The pod stood quiet and Ro dashed fort he weapon locker, he opened it and grabbed the energy staff in the locker. He jumped for the latch that was now positioned on the roof. His boots with anti-impact technology sprang him up. He grabbed the latch with one hand and held a pipe with the other. The hydraulics in the arm and glove made it easy to depressurize the latch. 'chhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh' the latch sounded like a beer being opened. Ro grabbed the edges and threw himself out. The sky was blue with objects floating in the air, massive tree's surrounded the pod. A large dark man with a many tattoos in a loincloth stood breathing heavily, the air around him seemed to form an dark red aura. "ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!" he yelled and ran towards the pod with such speed it shocked Ro. The man raised his arm and held it beside his face as if winding up for a punch and a haze seemed to appear i his fist. His eyes went the same shade of red as the aura that engulfed him. Ro leaped the ten foot drop off the pod on the ground, the leaves and vegetation were flattened from the crashing of the pod, some branches were even glowing red from the small fire's that resulted. He raised the energy staff to deflect any hit and turned it on. A blue beam lit up the previously white crevices of the dark staff. The two ran at each other full tilt, the man in the loincloth jumped into the air right before they collided and shot a red orb at Ro, who ate the shot to the top of the head. He was violently thrown to the ground, as he went to push up off the ground the man dropped onto his back knee first. The mans fists turned red and both looked as if they were on fire. Ro's head rocked back and forth as the man plummeted the helmet. Empire issued helmets were designed to be virtually unbreakable, but the cracks appearing everywhere in Ro's facepiece seemed to say otherwise. Every time he felt a fist connect it went black, until eventually he was knocked unconscious. He seen the blue glow of the staff under him for a quick second and then nothing but blackness......
